Toll Road Conversion
This project resulted in the widening of the Hardy Toll Road to three lanes and the converted of the highway facility to all-electronic tolling corridor.
This includes 13 ramp and 3 main lane toll plazas and over 2-lane miles of associated highway utilizing Reinforced Concrete Paving (QRCP), cement stabilized subbase (recycled in place).
The project location is located within Harris County, south of US99 and regionally adjacent to the George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
Scope included demolition of existing toll plazas, install hi-tech electronic tolling infrastructure, and highway realignment and widening with concrete slip-paving. High-risk schedule required 24/7 milestone operations without impacting regular traffic flows. As a regional connector, the corridor has a high volume of both commuter and freight/haulage traffic.
Overall, the contract was a "calendar day job", with no allowance for Holidays, weekends or weather, TSC implemented innovative solutions to accelerate construction through dual shift and weekend shift work to achieve project milestones on the significant concrete pavement scope which was part of the project.
In addition to managing 13 subcontractors to achieve the project goals, TSC used two separate crews with two separate
commercial providers, with both crews working in the same closure areas to reduce the number of traffic closures needed for the project and to meet tough project deadlines in coordination with other work occurring within the corridor.
The project carried LD penalties up to $25,000/hr. and was successfully executed with financial incentives achieved due to outstanding TSC performance on the project.
